The Supreme Court has given the right to unmarried women to have an abortion from 20 to 24 weeks. Till now this right was available only to married women. While giving the verdict, the Supreme Court said that there can be no discrimination between married and unmarried women. All women are entitled to a safe and legal abortion.

भारत में हर रोज Unsafe अबॉर्शन की वजह से 8 महिलाओं की मौत हो जाती है । UNFPA की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक भारत में 67% Unsafe अबॉर्शन होते हैं। दरअसल अबॉर्शन को लेकर देश में सख्त कानून और उसको लेकर अस्पष्टता, सामाजिक सोच और जागरुकता का अभाव है । लेकिन अब सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने अबॉर्शन को लेकर जो फैसला दिया है उससे आने वाले दिनों में Unsafe अबॉर्शन में काफी कमी आ सकती है.
